October 2006

Well thank my lucky stars! NESBA had a late-season addition to their schedule; a weekend on Summit Main. (Renting the track to cars makes them more money, so there must have been a cancellation..)       Misc Pics               Alton's Page        Brian's Page

Saturday:

Got in at 7:30, teched OK. It was warmer than expected. I pitted next to an A4 Avant towing a Kawasaki. Where else would I park? I’m not nervous, cool! I do need new gear, though.

Session 1:

Went out fourth. Didn’t see any yellow flags, but felt comfortable with the pace set by the two CR’s I was following. Red Flag on lap 2; a CBR600 lowsided in T4. After the restart I passed what must have been a recently-bumped I-guy and his CR. Kinda stood him up in T2. Got passed by the same 636 on checkered-flag lap. I need to charge T3 harder. A little cold-tearing on the left rear. The bike slid around all session, but not much. TP 30/30. There were only 10 of us out there.

Session 2:

Better. Got passed by everyone, but that’s OK. The last group didn’t drop me off so badly.

Session 3:

Better still. Not yet using the lap timer. Saw James from .net in the paddock.

Session 4:

First after lunch. Again, felt better. Worked on braking into 1 and 3. I could roll through the carousel harder, too. I’ll mount the lap timer and see what happens.

Session 5:

The lap timer works. Best of 1:28.22 – 2 seconds off my personal best. I’m still spooked by T1 & T3. I tried to scoot early in the session, but a sliding Ninja told me to take it easy. Top Speed: 139 mph.

Session 6:

Best time of the day at 1:27.97. (I still want to find four seconds somewhere.) Had a Gixxer 1000 to chase. Whee!

Session 7:

Don’t remember this one to much. Must have been fun, though.

Sunday:

Got in at 7:55, Morph teched me, it was nice to talk to him.

Session 1:

It was A LOT colder than Saturday; not as sunny, either. I took it easy, as did everyone. No red flags.

Session 2:

I was about fourth, and the lead guys were cookin’ – until one went down in T3.

Session 3:

1:32’s I think. Tires real sketchy through T3; dust from someone going off in 1 and riding back on to the track. I’m feeling good, but I’m not quite ready to push the limits in 1 and 3 yet.

Session 4:

Sunny after lunch. I’m getting a little tired, mentally.

Session 5:

I’m having fun now! Tim showed up and took photos. CR crashed in T4; red flag. Session over.

Session 6:

Cold-tore the rear tire. GPS-tracked my session. 136 mph top speed. Called it a day one session early.
