The first leg

The drive begins

The drive out of Denver was uneventful. The houses in the city had some neat architecture - not at all what I expected. It looks Bavarian. I expect to see that in Pittsburgh, but I didn't think that style would make it that far west. I didn't have any difficulty breathing, either. Of course, I wasn't out jogging.

I tried to look on the TripTik to see how far Kansas City was. Unfortunately, I would have to add up all the segment miles. I just figured I'd drive until I got tired. The guy at AAA who put my TripTik together suggested that I drive until about lunchtime. That way I'd have a good idea of how far I was going that day, so I'd know where I'd be by evening. Then he suggested I call ahead to make motel reservations. Too bad I didn't tell him I wouldn't be starting until noon. This didn't come back to haunt me until later.

Once I left Denver the road started looking mighty long. It was just me and a few semis. At least the tinking of the gravel on the car subsided.
