STT hosted a Memorial Day event at BeaveRun. I wasn't going Sunday, but Jan
talked my wife into it. I'm glad he did. I set a personal best of 1:06.84. I
stayed at me sister-in-law's house, and left my camera there, so I didn't get
any good pictures on Sunday. These are from my phone.
After the day was over on Sunday a Mazda 6 used by the track school was
taken out by Tom (?), the track owner a few hot laps. (I was watching
him.) The engine sounded pretty ratty as he came down the front straight. He ran
wide in T7, got it back on the pavement by T8, and the engine blew shortly
thereafter. I wish I had my camera, as there were flames shooting out of the
wheel well. He apparently drove it all the way down to T9, leaving oil and
engine parts in his wake. On Monday, Steve and crew found parts and oil. He
brought it up during the riders meeting, and Monte said the track was good.
Steve disagreed, and they looked at the track again. Steve was right, and more
of the track was coned off. We all (well, except Jason) sat out the morning
sessions. It was raining , anyway. A whole bunch of us went to watch the carnage
in the I-group. Fortunately none occurred.
There was no beacon set up, so we didn't get lap times. It cleared out in the
afternoon and we got some good laps in. I got my confidence back and enjoyed
mixing it up with the faster guys. I also didn't miss as many shifts this day. I
sat out the last session and took pictures of my friends. It was rather
overcast, and my lens is slow. I need a good one like Jan has.
Here are my pics and videos. I'm still capturing/editing, so check back.
