MD14

This ride took place Saturday, August 7, 2004. We were to ride my loop, and Kricket (Kelsey) wanted to ride it. We started at 9:00 AM, so the odds were good for getting it all in. Rick stopped by to see us off, but as mini-Rick is but a few weeks old he had business to attend to. It was just the two of us starting off

Major props to Kelsey for letting me ride his awesome ZX-10R!! We switched at the start. The bike didn't seem noticeably heavier than my ZX-6RR, but a hell of a lot stronger. The seat also felt slightly more comfortable. I never took the bike past 9K on the tach, but then again, I didn't have to. Some people complain about the tall gearing, as first is good for ~104 mph. I had no such complaints, as it always pulled harder than my 600. (No surprise here.)

My brakes felt a little better (both stock), and as he has the OEM Dunlops mounted and I have Dragon SuperCorsas mounted I didn't test the limits of traction. (We were on the street, anyway.)

In summary, it's an awesome bike. All I could think of is how many people I would have passed on this thing at my last track day. I don't know whether the extra mass or crankshaft weight would make it harder for me to transition in the tight corners. I definitely would have to deal with significantly higher speeds at the end of every straight.

Unfortunately, we didn't finish the ride. Kricket lowsided, unhurt, on Marriottsville Road #2. I rode up the street to KMart and got some duct tape. We patched his bike up and he rode home.
